I haven't used the boucle in anything but weft so far. One of my local weaving friends just had a nightmare of a time warping with boucle. I have the same kit as you used waiting in the wings.
When I have time to weave it up, I will be using the warping wheel and sectional beam on my David III. Hopefully that will keep it tame.

I have had the warp chained and ready for months, as well as the "Jane's Favorite Tea Towel" kit, and a bunch of others. I didn't want to have to wait to warp a project once the David was naked. LOL.
I did make the warp on my warping mill (one my husband made that is similar to the Harrisville Mill) and I have not had problems in the past. I'd even made The Charlotte Special towel kit and don't remember having issues. I'm just thankful to have Don here to help me wind on because I think it would have been worse if I'd used my trapeze invention! LOL.

It's all a learning experience, right?

LOL. I did force him to try weaving once. He is more of an inventor of loom hacks. I'll have to share my mirror once I get Ocean tied on and have a shed to check!

BTW, his current "loom hack research" project is a new fangled way to hold the lease sticks in place while winding on. I think Jane's way of tying (up, up, down down) worked fine, but apparently he needs to reinvent the wheel. LOL. Stay tuned!

Sounds like my husband. Always trying to improve on something to do with my loom!

Thank you, Deb, and thank you for the picture. I had to try to weave a boucle thread along the edge to fix a broken edge thread from the temple teeth. That did not work too well due to all the loops hanging off the boucle threads, but I managed to weave it through a bit and then I just gave up doing that. I will have to see if the edge totally collapses after I wash the towels.
What I ended up doing was to make the temple spread less than what it was supposed to be. My draw in will be more but I would rather have more draw in than broken edge threads. Other than that, I am looking forward to finishing the towels so I can see the washed results. I have another boucle towel kit from Jane that hopefully will be easier to weave.
As a side note, with my Toika Eeva loom, I had to learn to beat lighter than I normally do. I am used to throwing the shuttle, beating and beating again after I changed the shafts. That double beating gave me a too tight weave for the boucle. I have to only beat once and lightly.

this is off topic, but I was wondering if you got the "top if the lamm" set up. I am going to get my shafts #5-8 done today I hope. I have been weaving the last year on 4 shafts but feel like it's time to move up to 8, or at least have them ready. Do you have all 8 working? If so how has it been going. 8 will be a new experience for me.

I set up this boucle warp using the top of the lamms method and just love it. I am only using 4 but when I get the time I will set up all the rest, which is 12 for me. Thank you so much for sharing all the information with me. The top of the lamms method has been the easiest, so far, and I had a clean shed on the first try. I am a little confused about the treadle set up. I used anchor pins underneath the treadles, which was the most awkward part, and then I used knitting needles through the holes in the texsolv to denote the difference in length from the front of the treadle to the back. But, I don't thing that the knitting needles are actually doing that, because when I press the treadle down there does not seem to be any difference in length. I have to figure that out. Regardless, I have a perfect shed and am weaving. ???? When I do all 12 and use all 12 I will let you know how it works.

Thats great. I'm glad it's working out for you. I used the anchors for my attachments below the treadles too. Then the arrows for the top of the lamm. Once in a while one of the arrows will fly off, but the anchors below have never come out. I did not get to the other 4 harnesses yesterday, but hope to today. I had to look up our communications from the past to see what I told you about length of texsolv for the lamms. I might not have enough for all for, but there is always online ordering of more cord. This setup has made it so much easier to tie up I can't imagine getting under the loom again with each tie up.

I think I made all the lengths 33 or 30 inches.
When you use anchor pegs under the treadles do you adjust the lengths so the the cords are longer in the front of the treadle and shorter in the back or do you make the adjustments at the top of the shafts?
Now that I have my tie up pretty well figured out I have to figure out why my top lamms are getting twisted with the bottom of my shafts, which is a new issue for me. It messes up my shed.

I do not enjoy using the temple but I notice such a difference in the width of the warp in the reed and the draw in that I persevere through rearranging the temple every 2 inches, which is pushing it. I have found that using the temple is time consuming and can put holes in the fabric, which have always washed out, but still always concerns me. I also use a wooden temple because the Toika temples I have have teeth on them that can really hurt and definitely put holes in the fabric. I think Toika temples are good for rugs and maybe rep weave, but that it just what I read. I have woven a rep weave runner but I do not remember if I used a Toika temple or a temple at all.

I really should measure that draw in, right? I just see such a difference in the reed warp width and the width of the fabric. I also use a temple because it helps to keep the threads from rubbing against the walls of the dents in the reed. I can hear the difference.

Give Deb's recommendations a try to see if you can widen the fell line. I usually have about an 1" draw in each side. Kind of depends what I'm weaving.
