Hi Susan,
I would just keep the warp 8/2 cotton and make the pattern weft 8/4....then it can be thrown in the washer and dryer forever. You could make the tabby weft 16/2 cotton or bambu 12 which would make it a tad drapier. I would not increase the sett because the 8/4 is a bit heavier. Zephyr cannot be thrown in the washer and dryer....it will really shrink...so if you used it this baby blanket would have to be washed my hand. Those are my thoughts.

You are getting what you are supposed to get. There is no 3/1 or 1/3 turned twill in this piece....the tie-up boxes are giving you the same 2/2 twill in both A and B when using the Y treadles and you are getting a directional change when you move to the X treadles, but it is a 2/2 twill that is turning direction and the other block is weaving plain weave. Look at your outside white border....you can see the twill changing direction there, but it is a 2/2 twill changing direction. Hope this helps you understand. :)

thanks Jane. I understand that I'm getting what I'm supposed to for this tie up. If I changed the Y treadles to our classic turned twill tie up, would this Tie up #6a be 2/2 twill in A, turned twill in B?

Hi Kit,
You can change the quadrants to anything you want,,,,you won't have a clean cutlines between the blocks but as we've seen in this episode that doesn't have to be viewed as a bad thing.
At the present time the X treadles have 2 parts tied up to them...the bottom is weaving 2/2 twill and the top is weaving plain weave
The Y treadles have 2 parts tied up to them...the bottom is weaving 2/2 twill going in one direction and the top has 2/2 twill going in the other direction. You could go back to the tie ups from last year and use the classic tie-up and everything will be classic turned twill. If you want to mix it up with 2/2 twill and classic turned twill which is 3/1 or 1/3 then you have to play with what you want where. This is where doing the drawdowns by hand brings it all home. I highly recommend it.

I am currently weaving this warp. I think it would be great for towels as written, just add width to make it larger.

I just got these out of the box and I personally think they are a tad too heavy for a towel using the 8/2 for tabby and 8/4 for pattern. So....if you are going to use 8/2 for the tabby and pattern they might just be perfect. I always find that towels thicken up after they've been washed a few times. I did not try that combination but I did try using boucle for tabby and pattern and I loved that piece. It is a perfect towel weight and only weaving with one shuttle which is a nice break. I hope you'll try it. You can always make the warp a little bit wider so if you think they should be sett closer you can do that without making the cloth too narrow. So many options!!!
