OMGosh what a fun episode. My kit arrives today !! I haven't watched all of the videos yet, but I have a question re. the finishing...Jane says to steam press.

I am concerned about the sequins and how they hold up to this step. Did Jane use a press cloth in between the iron and the scarf to protect the sequins?

Hi Cheryl, I’m so glad you like the episode. I did not use a press cloth. My steam iron just glides over the cloth for a second…they hardly need any pressing. I hope you enjoy the weaving :)

Yes, this episode is totally fun! I have joyfully finished two scarves and have made the most awful mistake….i cut off the warp at the tied on edge and that tied on warp was to be my fringe. I now have 2 hemstitched ends, one with 6” of fringe and the other with an uneven 1/2”. Is there a way to recover from this? PLEASE say yes!!

You might also do a small rolled hem at each end, then sew a beaded fringe in colors that would go with your sequins. There would be some bulk there, but could be very lovely.

Yay! Jane! You sparked an idea! I also knit and have knitted beaded lacework, and this could work very well if the variation on the idea from mljanda doesn’t work out for me. Hadn’t thought of going in that direction :). I have hope now ladies! Thanks to all of you!!! I am actually excited about the options!

I have several cones of 14 bamboo. Is this the same as 16/2 bamboo and, if not, would it be suitable anyway for weft for the sequin scarves?

I am having the best time ever weaving these sequin scarves. I just have one question. Is there any special considerations to be taken when finishing the scarves? Jane has mentioned steam pressing, but are they gently hand washed first to set the cloth?

Hi Gale, I hand washed them gently in the sink in warm water and let them hang to dry. Then a quick steam press easy peasy :)
Twist your fringes first.

Just playing with the kit now. I was wondering how combining the tussah silk and bamboo in the weft would work? I have the bright colour bamboo but more muted silk. Do they shrink about the same in this scarf? Loving the pockets and getting fun ideas for keepsake baby blankets with special fabric put in the pockets!

Scarf with random stripe sequence used 16/2 Bamboo weft.
Scarf with repeat stripe sequence used silk tussah weft.

Wet finished gently. 17 sequins fell out of bamboo pockets. No loss in silk pockets. The silk scarf wove up as a more substantial fabric. I preferred this weight.

I like them both, but the random stripes and pattern is more visually appealing to me. I have another warp ready to put on my loom in cooler colors of lavender on the outside stripes and turquoise again in the center (I wear a lot of turquoise jewelry).
