Not sure who will have had more fun weaving this episode - Jane or you! Let us know 😉
I'm confused by the pick sequence graphic for towel #1. I hope you can direct me to the instructions that describe then difference between A, B, C and D and then clarify what (A), (B) in the alternating section are referring to.
It feels that Jane is using a special language here, and I'd like to decode it!
Thank you in advance.
Sandra
Hi Sandra,
In video 8.3.3, Jane explains how to treadle A, B, C & D, (each is a 4 pick sequences) at around the 13:23 mark which is on page 7 of the PDF:
Jane explains it way better than I can but basically, the 4 pick sequences are used on towels 1, 3, 4 & 5. Following the tie-up on page 7, for towel 1, treadle A in Peacock (4 picks), then B in Black (4 picks) and you'll want to repeat A & B 12 times in total or for 5 1/2 inches. After your last B in Black of 4 picks, do an A in Peacock of 4 picks. That is what the (A) in parantheses mean. You finish with whatever block is in the parentheses and this time it’s an A. Once you’ve woven this, then you go next and weave alternating B and C using both in Peacock for 4” and make sure you end with a B before you move to the A & D.
In this video at the loom, at the 4:41 ish, you can watch Jane weave A in Black, B in White, A in Black, B in White and you can watch her feet on the treadles. These are not towel 1 colours but it shows how to treadle A and B in a 4 pick sequence.
For the 5 pick sequences, you'll be following page 8 treadling tie-up. 5 pick sequences are for towels 2, 5, 6, 7 and 8. Towel 5 hand 4 and 5 picks sequences :)
*towel 5 has 4 and 5 picks sequences* sometimes my fingers have a mind of their own 😆
Thank you Ginette. I've just gotten back to this project and have finished Towel 1 which was a 4 pic sequence. I'm seeing that the tie up is the same for the 5 pic sequence, right? ( I'm using all ten treadles and the "mother of all tie ups" ;)
In the photos I am unable to see the hem, and I think that is what has been confusing me.
I so appreciate your kind attention. Sandra
Hello again. Im hoping you can assist me again. I'm on towel 2, #1 alternating instyructions. If I'm interpreting the draft, each repeat is a total of 10 pics of PW and 20 pics of block A (A1,A2, A1,A2 X 5). That will be 30 pics per repeat + 10 additional PW. Please confirm for me that I am reading it correctly.
Thank you.
