I want to use 8/2 cotton for the Canvas Weave Sampler. Would an epi of around 18 work with it? I see in the Master Sett Chart that 15 epi is recommended for plain weave with the 16/2 linen and she use close to that for the lace weave.
That would work or maybe 16 to let the Canvas Weave float a bit when it's washed. I always quickly check the weight per lb. to see how close to the recommended yarn I am substituting.

Hello, I am going to be warping my loom for the Canvas Weave project soon. I plan to use 8/2 Cotton. How did the 16 epi sett work out for you? Did you get the holes to show up at that sett? Thank you for any info you can provide on this.
In the show and tell video, the shawl that was indigo dyed was woven with 2/8 cotton and a 3/2 organic cotton that Jane says she sells. I do not see the 3/2 cotton in the shop. Do you no longer carry this one?
Yes, the cotton is in the shop and you’ll find it here: 3/2 Cotton Kathy used that cotton in her scarf using the basic 3/2 white cotton with the same 3/2 she had dyed in indigo.

I really don't know what sett Kathy used as this was not woven in house. Here's a perfect opportunity for you to practice understanding how to achieve your sett for a specific project! Remember the lesson on sett in Season 1?? Get out your ruler and do some winding ;-) Using the little tools that Jane has given us also gives us more control over creating our own cloth. Isn't that scarf fabulous????
I’m going to weave some linen napkins using the canvas/huck variations in this episode. Can you give me an idea about draw in/shrinkage of the linen in the kit for this episode?
It really would depend what your sett is. I just wove a sample at 30 epi for a project, the draw-in was about 10% and shrinkage roughly another 10%. However, mine had a heavier linen creating stripes in the warp. You could weave a sample at the beginning of your warp.. If you measured it on the loom, cut it off, hemmed it and it was as square as you wanted it to be, you’d know exactly how much you needed to weave for each napkin.

I have just finished weaving Kathy's thick and thin shawl from the canvas weave show and tell at 16 epi and it worked out beautifully. Love the feel of the 3/2 organic cotton.

Lois, I wove my tea towels with some canvas weave in them at 18 epi and they were fine. But as Jane says neither one is right nor wrong.
Hi Friends, have any of you tried making the canvas blanket - Monte Cristo + 8/4? I understand how to do the warp (thick/thin), but I'm unsure about the weft. Would that be thick/thin too? Also, I'm thinking 12 EPI.
I took the lesson draft and expanded it a bit to increase the width so I could use the leftover warp to make napkins. I also swapped out grey for a duck egg shade, and threw in some lilac as well!
Here's my set of napkins, I went through the lesson sampler and picked out the motifs I liked best and used those to try and create something symmetrical.

I used 8/2 cotton sett at 16 epi and made a table runner and little table mat with the end of my warp.
Frances, That is beautiful! I am almost finished with the Turned Twill and have already wound my warp in 8/2 for the Canvas Weave. I can't wait to get started on the laces! It looks like the 16 epi will be perfect. Thank you for sharing, Lois

I am just starting to watch Canvas Weave in season 5, episode 2. A generous weaver gifted me a crap ton of 10/2 cotton (4200 yds/pound) and 10/2 linen (1500 yds/pound).
I'd start the 10/2 cotton at 20 epi, and the 10/2 linen at 12 epi, per the Master Sett Chart in Handwoven for lace.
Other than the sample being either skinnier or wider, is there anything else to consider in choosing one or the other? Thank you!
I can’t confirm the setts you’ve chosen Lynn, but should have a nice sample!
