I realise that this is quite a specific issue but I'm hoping that somebody will have an answer: I am weaving a 4 ply cotton blanket on my Jane as a double weave. The issue I always have is that the 'bottom' layer (shafts 3 & 4) is always loose. As I wind the cloth onto the back beam it's getting looser and at some point it will become unweavable.
I have set up the shaft heights meticulously according to the manufacturer's instructions, and have also played around with the heights with no success. Lowering them all makes the problem worse, and raising them all is the same, so I'm completely flummoxed. The only thing that I think may be happening is that the bottom layer follows a smaller circumference as you wind the cloth onto the front beam which means that less is being taken up than the top layer, but this is just a guess. Everything is standard with no second beams anywhere
Has anyone come across this and if so, what was the solution? My apologies if this falls outside the normal scope of this forum, but as Jane had a hand in designing this particular loom, i felt that it might be OK!! Thank you :)
I've had a similar issue with a floor loom, on a long warp of multiple double wide blankets. I unwound the cloth beam, then re-wound it while pulling on the layers to make the tension more even. If you're doing multiple projects it might be worth cutting off and re-tying between blankets. If not, just rewind your cloth, tugging on the layers to make them more orderly as you wind back on.
My projects all looked good after wet finishing, even the one where I had to readjust the cloth mid-way.
