I am weaving my second scarf from season 3, episode 8 and this time I’m using a 16/2 linen as my base cloth and a ladder novelty yarn combined with a 30/2 Bombxy silk for my supplementary warp. Will alternating the pattern with a plain weave take up the looseness in the supplementary warp or should I weight it off the back beam with a stick? Thanks, Diane

I am using 16/2 linen for my base cloth and the silk/novelty yarn as one thread for the supplementary warp. I’ve already woven jane scarf using 16 to cotton and now I’m wanting to try it with linen. I will send pictures. Thanks

Here is a picture of Jane's scarf I wove with 16/2 cotton. I found there was some shrinkage with the combination of the supplementary silk warp and the cotton base.

Here are pictures of my supplementary warp using 16/2 linen as the base cloth and a picture showing how I weighted the supplementary threads off the back of the loom. I think it helps. I'm afraid I didn't think about the set when I sleyed the reed and it is set at 20 epi. I'm concerned the final cloth will be too stiff. I've been trying to use a soft beat and keep my ppi at around 12.

The images of your linen warp are beautiful!!! I love the sheen and the muted colors. If you cant wear it as a scarf, you could use it as a runner, a room divider, a drape (lined to protect from the sun) Anywhere, it would be luscious.

Thanks to both Cheryl and Barbara. I still have alot to learn about sett and am rewatching Jane's first episode. I'm especially confused when the sett differs for one warp.

Jane’s draft for this project calls for 20 epi for the warp with 2 threads per dent. Except for the edges where she has you sley 2 threads/dent x 2 dents then 4 threads/dent x 9 dents - total of 38 ends/inch on each edge of the cloth. She doesn’t change the set. Hope this makes sense. I guess the only way to change the overall set would be to pull the threads from the reed and resley?
