Does the selvedge consist of 1 end on each side?
How many inches do you leave for fringe?
Thanks , so excited to start my 1st blanket.
Grants Blankie
I watched episode 1.6.1 Division of Space where Jane shows how she designed Grants Blankie.
She shows 5 ends of Russet for the outside edge of the strip on each side.
On the PDF draft she has 9 ends of Topaz and says it includes the selvedges.
How many ends are used as the selvedge?
Can someone who's followed this draft help me out.
I am confused, lol
There's a free pattern download for Grant's Blankie here:

I'm using the PDF from Season 1 Episode 6.
Is it different than this one?
I just checked and it is the same pattern.
The number of ends of Topaz on the Warp Colour Sequence is what is confusing me.
I guess its 1 end selvedge and 8 ends to be threaded on the outside edge.
Are the extra ends to compensate for draw in?
Yes, there are 9 Topaz ends at the start and end of this draft. The first Topaz end is the floating selvage and is threaded through the read but not the heddles. The remaining 8 topaz ends are threaded in the heddles on shafts as 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4. This pattern woven in a 2/2 twill and the floating selvage is used to keep the edges tidy. I think Jane talks about this in more detail in the beginning of season 4 Introduction to Twills.
Thanks for your help Kathleen. I appreciate it.
