Hi everyone, this is possibly the daftest question to ever be posted to the forum... but, I'm going for it anyway.
What, exactly, is seine twine?
I live in the UK, and I cannot for the life of me find it at all! There is lots of warp cotton, but it comes in a huge array of thicknesses and wildy varying qualities.
I've found one weaving retailer of 'fishnet twine' but it's £32 ($70+) for one spool/cone! I get the impression that the seine twine Jane's talking about is more of a cheap and cheerful jack-of-all trades kind of twine? Is it like butcher/kitchen twine? Garden twine? Something else?

Can anyone give me some descriptors I can look for instead of seine twine? i.e. 12/4, 12/6 (which doesn't always work, cause half the yarns are in metric), maybe grams/metre, or a certain kid of twist or...? Are there certain European manufacturers I can look out for? Maybe they have different descriptors on their labels?

Any guidance would be very much appreciated, as I've got about 60 tabs open on my computer and none of them seem to be what I'm looking for.

Hi. It does originate in the fishing industry. Is very tight twist, is very strong, and does not stretch and therefore is used as tapestry and rug warp and comes in different thicknesses. #12 is the finest and there is #9 and #6 also. It is not rough and ready. It is nice and soft and smooth. In the weaving world, Brassard of Canada make it and also Souman Lanka of Finland and also Lina. It can be used for all sorts of tying up as you say and it is expensive in my experience when bought from weaving suppliers! If you google seine twine there is quite a lot of listings. Most suppliers of weaving threads have it on their online inventory. I think Jane has #12. Maybe try looking for tapestry and rug warp. 🙋‍♀️ PS there are no stupid questions. That is how we learn!
