Did Jane cover how to sew two panels together? I want to make a blanket but wider than my 36- inch loom. I thought I could make two panels and sew them together. Is it best to hand whip stitch or sew on sewing machine with a zig zag stitch? I like double-weave but I wanted some texture in the blanket.

I have just finished a blanket with panels joined together using an “entrabe union “ joining method. It is almost invisible and the join is totally smooth. Lay the panels side by side on a table and match up the weft loops on the sides of each panel. Use a bodkin or blunt needle with the same thread used for the weft and “weave” them together by going first thru a loop on one side and then a loop on the other side, back and forth, until you reach the other end. Maintain a nice even tension and don’t pull the seam too tight. The two panels need to be exactly the same length and I counted weft rows as I wove to ensure I have the same number of loops on each one for the join to be accurate and the length of the panels to match up correctly and without any bulk. I was using wool so this was not so onerous and we’ll worth the effort for a good finish. After wet finishing I brushed the blanket to make it fluffy and the joins are totally smooth and barely noticeable. The entrabe union joining method is apparently a very old method used by weavers of the Andes. I learnt of it via the weaving blog put up by “Ashford” looms. I will definitely be using it again.

My loom is only 30 inches wide, so this sounds like a perfect method for me to make a blanket. Much cheeper than buying another loom!
