What do you do with the ends that are tucked in after you remove from the loom? Is it safe to cut them? Before or after washing? Thank you.
Hi Lynn. I usually cut them after the fabric has been wet finish to allow for any shrinkage.
I usually trim the tails to one inch or so before wet finishing so they don’t grab on to anything in the wet finishing.
If it's wool, I make sure I have a nice overlap and/or splice and trim to the fabric. This is new for me and I think is working way better than leaving a tail. I do this because Its hard to find the little ends once wet finished. They bury themselves onto the fulled surface and disappear, almost. They can look like a flaw in the weave if you don't pull it away from the fulled fabric and trim. SO I just trim off before I wet finish. With cotton, Ive been trimming to the surface lately too. I can't imagine the weft unweaving an inch if I trim it to the surface. If the end unwinds over a thread or 2, I'll just trim it after the wash. That's my new strategy. I may change my mind over time.
