I have woven the muted color gamp and have purchased the primary and secondary color gamp kits - my problem - - - I find myself wanting to create an end result such as a towel or placemat. I would like to just weave and experiment with colors. What is the best way to take a 4-5 yard piece of cloth and cut it up into smaller sections once it is off the loom? Just zig zag by machine, cut and then hem or fringe? I don’t want to be constrained by making a planned placemat or towel of a predetermined length and I also don’t want to waste my cotton thread!!
You can do it in any way that you want ;-) - there are no rules...... If you decide to go with a fringe - you won't have your hemstitch to work against but you could do an interesting hand finishing stitch to secure the edge while you twist your fringe. For your hem - you can just cut it where you want the length to be (including your hem at both ends) and either machine or hand hem it your piece. In both cases - you might want to do a small zig-zag stitch to secure the ends for you to work with them, so they don't slip out of your woven cloth.
