Hello I’m new to this group and I have a question about how to change set from like 20 epi to say 18 epi I think I must have missed a video. Do they show this someplace. I have never cut my warp and then re-tied at a different epi. My head has been spinning from the start of this journey Jane has just an amazing way of getting her ideas and skill across to me I am just blown away by her design lessons, and the ideal of changing my weaving in this way is so exciting. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you Deb
Hi Deborah,
I'm at a similar place in Season 2 as you are. I did the color change yesterday - very exciting as I didn't even know this was a possibility a week ago!! I am planning on doing the sett change today.
Like you, I have never cut off a warp and then retied (even at the same sett). From what I understand, I plan on just cutting off the woven piece a few inches from where I finished weaving, as if I was entirely done with the entire warp. *I plan on loosening the tension a little bit before cutting so that the threads don't snap towards the back too much. Then after, removing the threads from the reed (leaving them in the heddles) and rethreading the reed, I will tie the knots onto the front just like when starting a brand new warp.
Like you, I hope I am interpreting this correctly! Going to find out shortly!
Plz let me know how it works out. This is the most amazing classes I have ever done. So much fun and the design ideas are just mind blowing.
Hi Deborah!
I agree with you on the classes - a wealth of information. And each sampler/gamp will provide so much time at the loom. If I were just making "things" (towels, scarves, runners...) I would never spend this "repetitive" time, which is SO necessary to understanding things, how everything should "feel", fixing problems, etc. Replacing a warp thread/group of threads, changing the epi...wonderful learning experiences that will have such practical applications down the road.
And we are only on the first course! Although, I have watched the "Colour & Weave Sample" lessons, and am gearing up to try warping multiple threads onto the warping board at one time!
FYI - I finished cutting off the woven material and rethreaded the reed at 12 epi. It works really well. **HOWEVER - my huge "lesson learned" was this..... I loosened the tension on the warp so that when I cut the threads at the front they wouldn't all go springing back to the back. So far, so good. I was snipping the threads and all of a sudden heard a "CLUNK". I had forgotten to take the tension off of the threads that were hanging off of the back (the "replacement" stripe), that were being held tight by the cones/weights. I should have either lengthened those threads so that the cones were sitting on the floor, or I could have sat the cones up on the castle. Because of the tension, those threads went flying to the back and fell to the floor. Thank goodness there were only 10 threads that had to be straightened out and put back through the heddles!!!
