When changing color of thread in a warp, after I cut the old (red) at the back of the loom, my new (grey) thread slipped and I lost the cross. I am struggling to find which grey to attach to the old threads still in the heddles. Any suggestions?
Changing threads while warp is still on the loom
Luckily - it's a very narrow warp - try to keep the warp in the best order you can as you tie it onto the red stripe. You will have to "babysit" it as it moves through your heddles while you weave. Check it every time you wind your cloth onto the cloth beam to make sure nothing will get tangled as you weave.
Thank you, Sandra! That is what I ended up doing, and it worked!! I just kept it running even through the heddles and reed. But, yes, I did check it every time I advanced the warp.
This is amazing fun!!! I am so excited to be learning this. Jane is wonderful!
My next step is to rethread the loom to open it up. I think I have to cut it, but can't find it on the videos. Did Jane cut it, and where is the best place to do that?
Jane talks about cutting her first sample off around the 49 minute mark in 2.2.3 - Introduction to Sample One. Have you had a chance to discover the Indexes yet? They are an amazing help when you are looking for something specific in an episode. Look under Resources at the top of any School if Weaving page and you will find the link to all the episodes so far. Happy weaving!
OH! Thank you so much!! I will check it out. Sometimes it's hard to find a particular skill/trick to making things simple.
Merry Christmas to all of you at Jane's world!!
Maggieg, be sure to reinsert your lease sticks before you cut your warp.
Thank you, Cheryl. I appreciate the "heads up". I try to think through the entire process prior to doing anything I am not quite sure of...or intimidated of.
I reinserted the lease sticks and tied bundles close to the lease sticks, in case everything wanted to let go. It worked. I was able to get them into the raddle with the new settings. Tomorrow, I will thread the heddles - then sley the reed. Wish me success!
Maggie
I wish you very good luck and hope you love your project !!
