I am working on the muted color gamp. I put on a really long warp and decided to try one of my towels in 2/2 twill. The sett is 18 EPI; should I be trying to get 18 ppi when doing twill? My angle is not exactly 45 degrees but is close. My PPI is currently 25. To get exactly 45 degree angle I need my twill line to be slightly more steep. I’m not sure whether a tighter beat or a softer beat will make a steeper angle.
You’ll need to try and get 18ppi to get the 45 degree angle. With the 8/2 cotton the sett might be a little loose for the 2/2 twill. Because there is half the interlacement of the weaving structure, it is more gauzy. I did towels last year in 16/2 cotton at 24epi. Plain weave was very nice. But when I did twill I found the structure too loose for my liking with towels. .
Thank you Barbara. Maybe I’ll just continue with my current PPI since I am getting a stable fabric, at least to complete this towel. Then I can do some sampling at 18 ppi and see how tgat looks after wet finishing. It’s all a learning exercise!
Absolutely! Great attitude about the process. I strive for that myself. I think it keeps us young
