Can you help me with sorting out my difficulties in the fold of my 60" wide doubled cloth weave sample. I plan to make a 52" in the reed double weave blanket with 3 ply Jaggerspun Heather wool. My 60" Mira with LeClerc fly shuttle seems to be working, but I am getting a lot of draw in at the fold.

I am practicing on an existing cotton warp I have on the loom. I have not skipped a dent at the fold side, yet. I also usually replace one of the last threads on the fold side with a temporary warp thread for removal once off the loom, as instructed in season 3 episode 7 Double Weave. This existing cotton warp I'm using to get a hang of double width weaving with a flying shuttle for the future blanket.

How do you manage your fold salvage to prevent draw in when using a fly shuttle? I could draw out the weft from the shuttle before each throw, but that seems very time consuming if there is a better way. I have heard of using fishing line at the fold to help. Any feedback would be welcome. Thanks.

I made a sample blanket finished at about 45x65" for my daughter in law and am very happy with the pattern, yarn and sett. Now I want to scale it up for the 60" loom. I could take off the fly shuttle if I need to. Please help me if you have any experience.

Wow, Barbara! THAT is huge! I don’t know anything about fly shuttles, but I’m interested in what you end up doing. The photo has a ? So I can’t see it. My first reaction would be to remove the fly shuttle. My latest blanket, which I will post when it’s done, has the best fold so far. Not as big as yours, but I think it’s a practice thing. I forgot to skip a dent, and I accidentally pulled out one of the threads in the early part of weaving, but I have just been very diligent about watching the fold and giving it plenty of space!

Your sample blanket looks gorgeous! What was your inspiration?

I have woven several tablecloths in double weave and used fishing line for two warp threads at the fold. That seemed to help with draw in.

Marty, above, asked about the inspiration for this blanket. It was the request of my dear friend. She is going to gift it to her son for his wedding this fall. She requested black and purple. So there you have it. I have like the gradation effect I've seen in plaids so wanted to try that. I gave my friend several drawn up patterns and she and her husband liked this one. The light purple strip was not in the original pattern. I used it to sample if I liked the lighter color. I don't like it with this pattern mix. This blanket is planned to be on a bed and I don't like how the strip looks smoothed flat. My friend didn't comment on the light purple strip. I told her it would only be woven with the "Lava" and the "Amethyst" colors in Jaggerspun 3ply heather wool.
