I finally got my double weave project on the loom. Everything was going great until this happened:

On the left (fold side) of the bottom layer my weft yarn was rising up like a little mountain. This only happened on the bottom layer.

It was a head-scratcher until I realized that this was only happening on the section of warp that was a different yarn. Everything in the warp is Harrisville Shetland EXCEPT that layer was alternating Harrisville and Alice Staremore Hebridean 3 ply. The yarns seemed very similar but apparently not. It looks like it is stretchier, or maybe stickier.

So...what to do?
I am thinking that I will just cut that section out and it will not be as wide. Perhaps a shawl, or big scarf. After all it IS a learning experience, but will it matter if the whole thing is slightly off center (like me, LOL)?
Or I can go through the pain and hassle of re-threading and re-sleying that color out with another Harrisville color. I really wanted that color in there, and I have a lot of it.

I welcome your thoughts and suggestions. What would you do?

Yikes...I have no advice as I've never done double weave. Your experience, however, will lead me to actually weave a sample (oh the horror LOL), before mixing different yarns in a block as opposed to evenly varied throughout the warp (which I have done many times with no issues).

Is it possible that when advancing the cloth, that it separated some on the bottom layer from the earlier section of the bottom layer as it went over the breast beam? try unwinding it and look, cause im curious, lol ---please?

Barbara, I don’t think so. Before I decided that the yarns didn’t play nice together, (like a lot things these days) I hadn’t gotten very far and even re-tied the yarn thinking that side was too loose. I tightened it up a bit, noting that the bouts beyond that which were all HS were fine and tight.

My latest idea is to—and this might be a very bad idea—wind it all onto the front, re-thread that section with HS, re sley it and then wind it back. Does that sound insane or should I just cut my losses—literally—and take that section out?

3 ply vs 2 ply.

I recall, barely, about how they knit up differently especially in socks -one being more round or something like that. And 3 or more ply being more comfortable and longer wearing because of that.

I’m obsessed. I think your original thought on stretchiness seems more likely. There were two projects using your yarn on Ravelry. One had 8epi and the other 6 and was for a shawl.

I tried opening it up to 2/dent instead of 2-3-3 and it helped a little but not enough. So I cut that whole section out and started again. It’s not as wide, but im just playing around and learning, so im fine with it. I’ll just wind the yarn I cut off onto bobbins for later.

Im having a ton of fun trying different colors and even some hand spun that I made years ago and didn’t know what to do with. It’s kind of artsy and not the best for knitting but it’s kind of cool in this sampler. I’ll post a picture when I get it off the loom so you can see all my experimentation.
