Hello all - I am in the process of shopping around for a new loom, and was wondering if I can get some advice. Initially I was considering an 8 shaft loom, which is an update from my current 4, giving more treadles for more tie ups too. I am also very intrigued by all of the 8 shaft structures, especially turned twill and more complex double weaves. But I also might have the opportunity to get a 12 shaft loom, and while I don't know off the top of my head what projects I would use 12 shafts for, it is tempting to have them. So my question is - is there a downside to having 12 shafts on a loom when you mostly use 4 and 8 shaft structures? Aside from the common issues of space and weight limitation?

Hi Rana, If you have an opportunity to get a 12 shaft loom that is wonderful. You have even more treadles :). Several of my Spring looms are 12 shaft and while I don’t use all 12, I certainly make use of the treadles. I can’t see any down sides to having 12 shafts while only using 4 or 8 of them. What is the make of the loom?
Thanks Jane! I was actually contemplating the Spring model :)
