I’m learning to use a beautiful second-hand twelve shaft Louët Spring I bought from a member of my local Weavers and Spinners Guild. I thought it might be good to have a thread for any questions about this, since it looks like a pretty commonly used loom. it seems to be the Volvo station wagon of floor looms.
I find sometimes the cords of the first and second shafts jump off their pulleys. I don’t see it happening so I’m not sure what’s going on. Should I concentrate on lifting ALL the tension off the treadles before pressing the next one (like a one- footed technique), or should I be tuning up the tension on all the cables?
Hi Alexander, congratulations on your loom....I like to think of them as a Mercedes :)
You should be off one treadle before you step on the next...you can't make them go up and down at the same time, and if that doesn't stop it then I would tension up those two cords by moving the peg into the next hole....This is up at the top where the ends of the cord are joined to complete the loop. They are staggered across the top of the loom.
Also, there is a thread on the Knowledge Base - based solely on the Spring Loom! It would certainly be worth your while to check it out as well ;-) Louet Spring Loom
Thanks Sandra....what would I do without you. You remember everything.
