Hi, I'm a new weaver and I'm really enjoying watching the videos. I've watched all of Season 1 and a bit of Season 4 (I like twills). I am not really sure where to start (I have an 8 shaft Ashford table loom 24" width that I have set up with just 4 shafts to start with). I would like to find a relatively simple beginner project. There don't seem to be any beginning projects in season 1. Jane mentioned that 8/2 cotton would be a good place to start for new weavers. I was thinking maybe the Garibaldi Flats Tea Towel Kit might be a good starting place but making that many towels seems daunting. The twill kit for season 4 looks interesting and it mentions there is enough to make a scarf but I don't see that there is any pattern included.

Definitely start Season 2 episode 1 and follow along completing each lesson. Be sure to use the yarns recommended. I was a beginner and learned so much from following the sequence as each lesson builds on the former lesson. Have fun!!

I started with weaving towels using 8/4 cotton. The good thing about those is that there are not as many warp ends (200 vs. 400), so for me it was less intimidating than 8/2 cotton. I also used a short warp length (3 m). The second project I made was a scarf with 8/4 cotton as warp, and knitting wool as weft. That was fun and allowed me to use up some of my knitting wool stash. I think from now on those scarf projects will work as a palette cleanser for me in between projects, or for when I want a quick gift or something mindless.
I am going through season 2 right now and I completely agree that the first sample is a really good beginner project, but I was intimidated by putting on such a long (to me anyway), warp. Working with the 8/4 towels gave me the confidence I needed to tackle a 6 yard warp in 8/2.

Well done! I was intimidated by the long warps at first too BUT it’s the free play that Jane encourages so often where lots of learning and creativity happens. Go for it!!
