Thinking about weaving baby wraps. What yarn and pattern would you recommend.
What kind of baby wrap are you thinking of? One to snuggle the baby in and use as a blanket? If so - the JST kits that use Monte Cristo yarn make fabulous baby blankets. (https://janestaffordtextiles.com/product/monte-cristo-baby-blanket-kit/ ) If by wrap you mean the ones that mothers have used in the last number of years to carry their babies - I can’t help you with a pattern but I certainly would use 8/2 or 8/4 cotton weight, or something along that line. Many years ago, when I was weaving for babies - the mothers that I wove for loved waffle weave wraps in 8/2 cotton to wrap their babies and toddlers as they came out of their bath. Hope this helps. Maybe another member with experience in the carrying type of wrap can comment, if that’s what you are looking for.
Thank you. I appreciate your comments. I have already made a baby blanket with the Monte Cristo cotton. The result was fabulous. Reason I asked was because I have used patterns from different sources (not knowing any different as I do now) the sett was too close and I was disappointed with the result of my hand towels. My newer ones --per Jane's sett guidelines --are wonderfully absorbent now.
This one pattern calls for 8/2 cotton and twill at 24 epi and 24 ppi.
I will look at your suggested waffle weave structure also. Thank you for your quick reply.
Just thought I'd add a comment. I'm weaving a baby wrap right now for my neice (the kind to carry and wear the baby). I researched this heavily . Handwoven has an E Book on baby wraps. I also wrote to a couple of baby carry weavers. 8/2 cotton is the preferred with 10/2 for the weft. Hope that helps you out.
