After receiving the newsletter today, I downloaded the Harrisville Shetland Blankie pattern and it inspired me to attempt to convert it to a doublewidth draft for my Jane70 table loom.
I am pretty sure I have the warp colour sequence figured out, but when I tried to figure out the draft, I got quite confused! I went back to rewatch Episode 3.7 on Doublewidth plain weave, and I understand that in theory but I can’t quite figure out how to apply that to 2/2 Twill.
I think the threading would be. 8-4-7-3-6-2-5-1
I think the tie up would be: 12-23-34-41-123456-123467-123478-123485
I think the treadling sequence would be: 1-2-5-6-3-4-7-8
Sorry, I can’t figure out how to upload a picture, hope all those number make sense. Does it look right, or am I way off base? :)
Do you have a draft you could share for 2/2 doublewidth?
Thanks!
Hi Five Kate, You’ve got it correct. Congratulations. We don’t have a pattern for double width twill, sorry.
Wow, that’s kinda amazing! I totally didn’t think I had that right :) I must have a great teacher!
Are there any other gotchas I should be aware of? With 533 threads, my top and bottom layers won’t have the same number of threads, will that matter? Should I add an extra to make the two layers even?
I think I will test this out on the end of my current tea towel warp before jumping in with a full warp of wool.
Hi Katie,
You’ll be fine with 533 and I think it is an awesome idea to test it on a current warp. You know how much I test everything just to make sure. It is how I have learned all these years, try it, test it, adjust it if need be. I haven’t done this in years so you can remind me of anything you find out :)
Way to go. Yay!
Happy Weaving and post your success :)
Jane
