I am spinning various wool, wool blends to be a fine fingering or lace weight. They are single braids but I would like to use them. I am wondering what I can use for warp. Can I use cotton or silk of the same weight? If I was to use cotton or silk would it be better to warp with the wool and use silk or cotton for weft. Some of the wool yarn would make q wonderful verigated warp….if I want to use silk with cotton for drape is it better in the warp or weft, same with using wool. Will cotton and wool give you any drape. To wrap it up, I have a stash of wool, wool blend braids and I want to use them in wide shawls and I want to have a lot of drape….looking for thoughts on this….Thank you

Hi all - I have enjoyed my first attempts at weaving over these last months. I just washed a couple of towels that I made this week and looking at the back side, there are these weird heavy lines in the fabric. I am tickled pink with these towels and am not dissappointed in them, but I wonder what in the world I did to make that happen?

...Maybe....? Surely I would have noticed throwing two because they un-weave on my Ashford table loom if I do that. Its only visible on one side, so I wonder if I had a sticky shaft? When it rains that 4th shaft sticks. I think I'll try to rub some wax on the frame before I start my Parrot Fibonacci w/Gradation. I find that the loom moves across my table quite a bit when I beat, so maybe I pull it out of square and that's causing the shafts not to fall?

I guess I'll see if putting it on an old yoga mat on top of the table and maybe clamping it down to my table helps.

Who knows... I WISH I could afford a floor loom. I have a 32", 8 shaft, Ashford table loom right now, without the stand or treadles.

I want to try Rep weaving as in Episode 5/Season 3 and I have some 5/2 yarn in my stash. I have checked the epi on a ruler and It comes to 15epi. If I want a stiff placemat would trebbling that achieve the same results as Jane demonstrated? 45 epi just seems like a lot. Also I have a 10 dent reed and it would main sleying 4-5 threads in one dent. Is this doable? Never done Rep weaving before so not sure what to expect.

I really don't know - I've never woven with 5/2 cotton and we don't carry it in the JST shop. I hope that this is the right place to post this question but is there a preliminary list of topics/timelines for season 8? I am not in a rush, just planning my weaving :)

Hi Rana - this is what I posted on the JST Ravelry page in response to a similar question …. We both have to be patient 😉

Jane is still in the planning stages for Year 8 and will be ready to fill us in on her plans are when this year is finished. I do know that she already has ideas going forward using 4 shafts and will likely have something for 8 shafts - but this is just my guess. I’m in the “wait and see” mode with you at this time of year.
