I just finished my warp and am cutting apart my pads. It has been awhile since I watched the video but I don't recall any wet finish suggestions. Can these be washed? Steamed? Thank you for any help.
Because they are weft faced, you really don’t need to wash them, the wool is nicely covering your warp. However, if you wanted to wash them, you could gently soak them in a neutral soap that doesn’t need to be rinsed out. I always have a bottle of Eucalan around for my knitting but any liquid soap that doesn’t need rinsing can be used, then blot them with towels and let them air dry. There is no right way or wrong way 😉
Thank you Sandra. I hadn't really even thought about it until I told my son one was for him. He asked how to wash it if it got dirty. Thank you for the suggestion for Eucalan in the event one needs washing. For now I will leave them as is until that happens!
I'm allergic to wool and would like to use another fiber in the weft-faced samples in Season 3, Episode 4. Do you have any suggestions for something that would pack down as nicely? Thank you!
When I ran out of scrap wool, I used "kitchen cotton" like the inexpensive Sugar 'n Cream by Lily. It worked reasonably well and I've since woven weft-faced coasters using it. Hope this helps!
There are some nice acrylic yarns available now that you could use. They wouldn't full the way wool would, but I think you could get some great samples using those. Or, you could use the cotton that Lana suggests - it would pack in enough for you to understand how to create the different patterns that you can weave using a weft-faced technique.

If I use the materials in the kit what is the better set- 4 or 6 EPI as I only have a 12 dent reed

These are definitely rug material. They were good for using up old worsted I had inherited from several generations of overstashed relatives - hahaha! The one on the right was a pattern I found in Anne Dixon's book; I really like it.

I'm just so interested in trying this weft faced weaving! There are so many historical documents around this too - I've been studying up on the "Norwegian Textile Letter. Flesberg: The Norwegian Pattern Book Shared". Do I read some more or weave some more? So much to weave and so little time! :)
