S2-Episode 7 - All About Stripes
Having a little trouble wrapping my head around warping this with four threads for the middle section. Any and all hints will be most welcome.
Thank you!
I had the same concern. I think a warping paddle would have helped with thread management. My threads didn't stay in perfect order, but things ended up fine when on the loom.
The "At the Loom" video was so inspiring. Thank you!
About warping with 4 threads, I use an old wide-tooth comb. I lay the treads in and put a rubber band on it. I think I uploaded a picture in the Color & Weave thread. It takes a little bit of practice to make the directional turns on the warping board, but really helped me wind the C&W gamp.
When I first started with Season 1, I thought I needed to make as many towels as possible. Now, I really want to play. The messages to slow down and play are resounding elsewhere, too, especially as I get older. Thank you, Jane. Thank you so very much!
Also excited about the change in shipping carrier. The last package I ordered showed up so quickly! I wasn't expecting it for at least 10-14 days and it showed up in 2 or 3. Blew me away!
Time to hem a couple gift towels before work.
It's nice to find some others who are at a similar point in working through Jane's School of Weaving! I just pulled this project off the loom last night. I did a very small sample because I didn't want a yellow towel; this was with all lemon weft: https://ibb.co/NrYtLLC. I have to say that while on-loom, the bright lemon wasn't really coming through; it looks much better now after wet finishing, much stronger lemon shade, which I like!
The colors in this photo aren't coming through true, this is Towel 1 which is all done with Nile as the weft. https://ibb.co/HXLygmv
Towel 2 yellow sections were done with Butter, and in the middle section I used Pale Orange, Cayenne, Hot Pink, Red, Purple, and Fuschia: https://ibb.co/QKLRwL0
Towel 3 I did some Color & Weave sequences: in 1 half I paired Cayenne with Nile, and the other half was Red with Lemon. Purple for zingers. https://ibb.co/f9t7mM3
Towel 4 I call the "Caribbean look"; it is Pale Limette with Peacock. https://ibb.co/DRtPqRW
I managed to squeeze one more towel out of my warp; I had the back apron rod all the way into the back shafts (good thing I hadn't put the heddles on those shafts yet). It was tough getting the shuttle to go through for about the last 3 inches, as the shed was getting so narrow and I couldn't advance the warp any more! But I was determined to make the towel symmetrical. Towel 5 - 10 picks each: Cayenne, Pale Orange, Apricot, Raspberry, Fuschia, and Hot Pink. I did TAW in the center section because I wanted to see what the checks would look like. https://ibb.co/3T82ryQ
Hi Meridee,
What pretty towels!!!! I really like them. I'd be hard-pressed to pick a favorite, but I do have a thing for Pale Limette and Peacock. They are all just wonderful.
I added 8 ends of Pale Limette to either side of the yellow warp. I tried and tried to get the tension even on the added threads. I posted some pictures and asked for help. Cheryl Schwartz replied with a fix that I tried and then a fix to the fix because I did it wrong the first time. (Thanks again, Cheryl!). I still couldn't get it to work right even though I could see that the fix should have worked. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I really did something wrong. I never could find a balance point such that the fell line was straight (not curved upward sharply) and the bottom of the weaving didn't spread out and curve downward. A few days ago, I admitted defeat and cut the Pale Limette threads. I haven't had time to get back to weaving on the original warp. I hope it's still okay. I think maybe it just wanted to be left as is. I've noticed that sometimes a warp can be a little bossy about what it wants and doesn't want. I think the warp and I have agreed that I can use Pale Limette for the hem and maybe some decorative stitching on the sides. I wonder, does anyone else have to bargain with their warps?
I didn't think I would like the pale yellow warp, but I fell in love with it. Life has been a bit overwhelming the last few weeks with too many things happening at the same time. Maybe when I get through today's to-do list, I can weave for a while.
Thank you again for sharing the lovely towels. Very inspiring.

Just starting this project; am I the only one to have a hard time distinguishing between the butter and the lemon? I feel I'm color blind, as they look identical. I even took a picture of it and tried all the different filters and I still can't tell. Hopefully I'll get the right color in the correct placement. Anxious to get the warp wound! https://ibb.co/0jH2v88 https://ibb.co/xfH6b70
I had the same problem! (Maybe I need cataract surgery?) I just did my best on the little stripes on the sides, and decided not to stress over it.
I guess I'll just use apricot from my stash in place of the butter and have lots of lemon! Even if I do have two distinct colors in the lemon and butter, I'd never be able to distinguish them at the loom. On to plan #B!
Sounds like you have it solved... the photo in color shows as pretty much the same color to me.
