Well I decided to go with 8ppi. It was a nice open weave and I think it will full ok without being too stiff. I’ll try to go easy on the fulling though as recommended by Sandra above.
S2-Episode 4 - Colour & Weave Sample
The thing with wet finishing is that you can always do a bit more if it’s not what you are looking for BUT you can never take out any fulling results once they are in your cloth 😉
Thanks so much Sandra. As Jane advises us students, and I try to follow, "Don't fuss so much; just try it"
Not sure if this is the right location for this, but I wanted to share a couple of my parrot samples. I am so excited that they turned out so well. Of course I am still learning the process and have only had my David III for less than a month, but I am sure having fun! Also, this is my first time uploading images here (without my tech hubby's help) so I hope I didn't mess it up. 🤣
Looking fabulous, Deb! I hope you continue on and weave the wrap - my granddaughter and my DIL have both wanted to take that one home ;-)
Deb, how did you upload those images of your towels? I had to use the imgBB site to load and copy the link into the thread. I'd like to just add the picture instead straight to the thread.
After you’ve uploaded the image, there’s a place that says “imbed codes” to click that you use that starts and ends with [url……./url]
Just copy and paste that link to your post. I did the same thing at first and didn’t see that until my husband showed me. 😉
I did it, but there are still the links in the text near the image...oh well I'll try some other code formats on my next post, lolr.
Those are beautiful! And the squares are perfect!
Thank you, Kim and Sandra!
Here is a picture of my color and weave gamp that I have just finished up. I modified the warp and weft to get a larger weaving width. I made 5 napkins and hemmed them. Then I resleyed the reed to 12 epi, and wove the cloth with boucle for a baby blanket or towel. I haven't washed it yet. It will be hemmed with a 1.5" turned hem. Then as demonstrated in the class, I took out the orange strips and put in another color, and wove the weft in Jaggerspun Heather wool at 8epi (as I mention a few posts above this one). This last weave is not fulled yet ether. Im working on the fringe.
Here are 2 of the napkins in the PW Color and Weave gamp. One of them isn't hemmed yet and you can see the pins. I am going to hand hem that one to see how that looks:

Here is the warp change and the bobbins holding the new warp at the warp beam. The change of the warp was sort of hard to pull off. I don't think outside of an emergency I would do that again, lol. The second and 3rd pics are of the 10epi and 8epi samples:

Did you post a picture of this one
with the Jagger Spun after fulling? I would love to see that.
That looks fantastic!
I agree. I love the orange in your colour and weave gamp. Gorgeous!
Regarding adjustments to the Colour and Weave Gamp for a 15 3/4" Dorothy table loom...
If anyone has reduced the number of ends and adjusted the warp colour sequence with success, please share your mods. :)
This is what I am considering doing. I'd welcome some reassurance that I'm on the right track.
Thanks!
Modified warp colour sequence for 15 3/4" weaving width (uses 281 ends = 15.6")
40 ends: D/L
3 ends: Apricot
36 ends: DD/LL
3 ends: Apricot
36 ends: DD/L
3 ends: Apricot
40 ends: DDDD/LLLL
3 ends: Apricot
36 ends: DDD/L
3 ends: Apricot
35 ends: DD/LLL
3 ends: Apricot
40 ends: D/L/DD/L
I don't think it would make a difference. The 40 end at the center will look larger when woven. You could us 36ends there like the other tiles. The 2 sides, I would think should stay at 40 to provide symmetry when woven as there would probably be draw in at the 2 edges. The center you could start with dddd/llll and repeat and end with the dddd. It would also be framed with the dark strings next to the apricot.
Hello!
First posted project as new weaver - as of last Dec 2021.. when I wasn't sure which was the warp and which was the weft.! All credit to JST!! I'm a long time knitter and love rustic wools. I decided to do the color and weave gamp in season 2 in Harrisville Shetland wool. Adjusted epi from instructions and used 8epi. I love how they turned out! Did some striping on remaining warp. The web fabric off loom was very open - but trusted Jane's point of allowing for space in the fulling process - so the wool can bloom. That's what I was most interested in - as I love that in my hand knits.
Had a small pic error early on - forgot to change shed. I was so focused on how fun the patterns were! So many design possibilities - as Jane points out.

You've done a beautiful job, Sandy! Keep up the good work - you look like you mastered a "balanced" beat in your samples :-)
I love how the gamp looks in wool!! I haven't done much weaving with wool yet.
those are beautiful!
After a quick whirl with an autumn colored boucle' warp, I'm back to Season 2. I've wound 2/3 of the color and weave gamp warp. It's taken a lot of time to get this far. Luckily, I noticed and corrected mistakes on the warping board, although I won't be too surprised if there are more mistakes waiting to jump out as soon as the warp is on the loom. In spite of the difficulty, I love how it looks and I am looking forward to playing with it.
Thank you to everyone who has posted questions and tips about this project. They've all be incredibly helpful.
Did anyone wind the warp using a warping paddle (is that what they are called)? I'm curious what it's like to use one. I used a decorative type hair comb for one of the sections and it was helpful, but awfully clumsy.
I am interested in this as well. Warping with more than 4 threads is a challenge on many levels. I was dealing with a lot of tangling, too.
True confessions - I’ve tried 4 and even 5 threads at a time but it doesn’t put me in a happy place - so I do what makes me happy! I put on some music and relax by winding on 2 or 3 ends at a time. I get to the same place in the end and I’m not in that much of a rush. Remember what Jane often says - one way of doing something isn’t right or wrong, just do the way that works best for you. On the paddle … I have one that is gathering dust -I’ve tried it but went back to my happy way. It’s good to try other ways but the bottom line is - try warping other ways and then wind your warp the way that works best for you … 😉
I tell myself all the time, Sandra. Jane will be happy to know that her advice rings in my ears and helps me get through the learning process. I am going to try the paddle that my hubby made, but I have a feeling it will still feel awkward!
